About the Bundle

When life moves fast, the body can feel cool and the mind can feel scattered. In Ayurvedic tradition, this experience is understood through Vata dosha, the energy of wind and movement, said to benefit from grounding, warmth, and nourishment to find its natural ease. The Vata Balancing Massage Bundle brings together three oils that together cover a complete Vata-pacifying self-care practice, from ready-blended Abhyanga massage to daily facial nourishment:

  • The Vata Balancing Massage Oil is the bundle's ready-to-use centrepiece, organic Black Sesame Oil blended with Cardamom, Cinnamon, Lavender, Vetiver, Clary Sage and Ylang Ylang essential oils, a single, elegantly fragrant preparation for full-body Abhyanga with no mixing required.
  • Organic Black Sesame Oil is included separately as the pure, single-ingredient version of the bundle's base oil, traditionally described by the classical scholar Charaka as "the best of all oils," versatile for scalp and hair massage, traditional oil pulling (Gandusha), and culinary use, roles the blended massage oil isn't intended for.
  • Organic Jojoba Oil is the bundle's lighter, Tridoshic carrier, the recommended daily facial and body moisturiser to use alongside Abhyanga, and to lock in moisture after showering off the massage oil.

Together, these three oils separate out the different roles a Vata-pacifying routine calls for: a ready-made warming massage oil for Abhyanga, a pure versatile base oil for scalp, hair, and traditional oral care practices, and a lighter daily oil for the face and everyday moisture. Suitable for all body types and constitutions as a nourishing daily practice, while traditionally favoured for Vata constitutions and during Vata seasons (autumn and winter).

Benefits

Calm & Natural Grounding

  • Traditionally used to support a sense of calm and groundedness, warm oil massage combined with Vata-pacifying essential oils is used to nourish this sense of settledness through both topical application and aromatic inhalation
  • Vetiver, Lavender, and Clary Sage are traditionally valued for their grounding aromatic qualities, associated with settling scattered energy and restoring a comfortable sense of ease
  • Traditionally associated with a calm, clear, and settled mind, in line with Ayurveda's view of counteracting scattered or restless mental activity

Natural Warmth & Comfortable Circulation

  • Traditionally used to support natural warmth and comfortable circulation, Cinnamon and Cardamom's warming aromatic qualities are traditionally activated through topical absorption and massage
  • Traditionally valued for warming cold hands, feet, and a Vata constitution said to run cold
  • Traditionally favoured during autumn and winter, when Vata is said to accumulate most strongly
  • Traditionally used to support comfortable muscle and joint ease through warm oil massage, a foundational Ayurvedic Abhyanga practice

Skin, Hair & Scalp Nourishment

  • Traditionally used to deeply nourish and moisturise the skin, Black Sesame Oil's rich fatty acid profile is traditionally valued for penetrating nourishment, well suited to dry, fine, and delicate skin types
  • Deeply moisturises and nourishes skin and hair without leaving a greasy residue, Jojoba's sebum-like wax ester structure absorbs completely
  • Traditionally used to nourish the scalp through regular massage with pure Black Sesame Oil (Shiro Abhyanga)
  • Supports naturally radiant, healthy-looking skin, both Jojoba and Black Sesame are naturally rich in Vitamin E and antioxidant compounds
  • Suitable for all skin types, Jojoba is classified Tridoshic and Black Sesame carries a low comedogenic rating (1–3)

Natural Sleep Ease & Emotional Balance

  • Traditionally used before bed to support natural, restful sleep ease, Vetiver and Lavender are valued in Ayurvedic and aromatherapy tradition for this purpose
  • Traditionally associated with a positive mood and a sense of emotional warmth and ease, Ylang Ylang and Cardamom are traditionally valued for this quality

A Complete, Versatile Ritual

  • One bundle covers ready-blended Abhyanga, pure carrier oil versatility, and daily facial skincare, in one place
  • Pure Black Sesame Oil extends beyond massage into traditional oil pulling and culinary use, roles the essential-oil-infused massage blend isn't suited to
  • Jojoba's neutral character makes it the ideal daily facial companion to the more intensely aromatic massage oil

Directions for Use

The three oils in this bundle are designed to work together across a daily and weekly rhythm. Here is a suggested Vata-pacifying ritual:

2–7 times per week (daily in Vata season) – Vata Balancing Massage Oil (Abhyanga):

Warm the bottle in warm water for 5–10 minutes. Apply generously over the entire body with firm, rhythmic strokes, paying particular attention to the lower back, hips, sacrum, feet, and joints, the primary Vata seats in the body. Leave on 10–40 minutes, then remove with exfoliating gloves and warm water.

After Abhyanga – Jojoba Oil:

Finish with a light application of Jojoba Oil after showering to lock in natural moisture and support soft, nourished skin throughout the day.

Daily facial & body skincare – Jojoba Oil:

Apply 3–5 drops to clean, slightly damp skin morning and evening as a facial moisturiser, or use as a standalone daily body oil.

Scalp & hair massage – pure Black Sesame Oil:

Warm a small amount and massage into the scalp using circular fingertip pressure. Leave on a minimum of 30 minutes or overnight, then wash out with natural shampoo.

Traditional oil pulling (Gandusha) – pure Black Sesame Oil:

Swish 1 tablespoon of warm sesame oil in the mouth for 10–20 minutes first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking. Rinse with warm water and brush teeth as normal.

Culinary use – pure Black Sesame Oil:

Suitable as a flavouring and finishing oil for salad dressings, rice, soups, or noodles. Avoid high-heat cooking; keep below medium heat to preserve flavour and quality.

Best timing:

Morning use of the Vata Balancing Massage Oil, before bathing, is traditionally used to set a grounded, warm tone for the day. Evening use before bed is traditionally considered settling and supportive of sleep.

Seasonal use:

For daily Vata-balance in Ayurvedic tradition, use the massage oil daily throughout autumn and winter. Reduce to 3–4 times per week during spring and summer.

Safety:For external use only (except where culinary use is specified for pure Black Sesame Oil). Perform a patch test before full body use of the Vata Balancing Massage Oil or Black Sesame Oil. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Not recommended during pregnancy without practitioner guidance. Never microwave or heat oils over direct high heat when warming for Abhyanga. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you have a diagnosed medical condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the Vata Balancing Massage Bundle? +

The bundle includes the Vata Balancing Massage Oil (200ml or 500ml), Organic Black Sesame Oil (200ml or 500ml), and Organic Jojoba Oil (200ml or 500ml). Together they form a complete Vata-pacifying massage and skincare ritual.

Isn't the Black Sesame Oil already in the Massage Oil, why include it separately? +

The Vata Balancing Massage Oil contains Black Sesame Oil as its base, blended with essential oils for Abhyanga specifically. The pure Black Sesame Oil in this bundle is included for the roles the blended massage oil isn't intended for, scalp and hair massage, traditional oil pulling (Gandusha), and culinary use. The massage oil is the more targeted Abhyanga preparation; pure sesame oil is the more versatile everyday oil.

Why is Jojoba Oil included alongside two sesame-based oils? +

Jojoba Oil is lighter and Tridoshic, better suited to daily facial use than the heavier, more intensely aromatic Vata Balancing Massage Oil. It's recommended to finish an Abhyanga session with a light layer of Jojoba Oil to lock in moisture, and as your everyday facial and body moisturiser between massage sessions.

I'm new to Ayurveda, where should I start with this bundle? +

A simple starting point is Vata Balancing Massage Oil Abhyanga 2–3 times per week, followed by a light layer of Jojoba Oil after showering. As you settle into the routine, you can add pure Black Sesame Oil for scalp massage or oil pulling, and use Jojoba Oil daily on the face.

Can this bundle help with anxiety, restlessness, or dry skin? +

In Ayurveda, daily warm oil massage (Abhyanga) combined with Vata-pacifying essential oils is traditionally considered one of the most grounding practices for calming Vata-related mental restlessness and supporting dry, rough, cold-feeling skin. This bundle is not a treatment for any mental health condition or skin disease such as eczema or psoriasis. Please consult your healthcare practitioner for persistent concerns.

Is this bundle safe to use every day? +

Jojoba Oil and Black Sesame Oil are gentle and suitable for daily use. The Vata Balancing Massage Oil is traditionally used daily during autumn, winter, and Vata seasons, reducing to 3–4 times per week during spring and summer. Always perform a patch test before full body use and consult a healthcare practitioner if you have a diagnosed medical condition.
