About This Oil

When life moves fast, the body can feel cool and the mind can feel scattered. In Ayurvedic tradition, Vata, the energy of wind and movement, is said to benefit from grounding, warmth, and nourishment to find its natural ease. Vata Balancing Massage Oil is formulated with this traditional principle in mind: a deeply settling, warming, and nourishing Ayurvedic Abhyanga oil crafted to support a sense of natural calm, warmth, and grounded clarity.

At its foundation is organic Black Sesame Oil, a foremost oil in Ayurvedic tradition, valued as warming, nourishing, and deeply penetrating. Blended with the six essential oils of Kimmana's signature Grounded Enlightenment Vata Blend, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Lavender, Vetiver, Clary Sage, and Ylang Ylang, this massage oil is traditionally associated with the qualities Vata is said to need: warmth, moisture, heaviness, grounding, and nourishment, in a single, ready-to-use, elegantly fragrant Abhyanga preparation.

Suitable for all body types and constitutions as a daily nourishing massage oil, while traditionally favoured for Vata constitutions and during Vata seasons (autumn and winter). Use as a full Abhyanga body oil, a targeted self-massage preparation, or a daily skin nourishment treatment.

Traditional Ayurvedic wellness product. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Directions for Use

Warm the oil gently: Place the bottle in warm water for 5–10 minutes before use. Warm oil is traditionally considered to penetrate the tissues more deeply and enhances the essential oils' aromatic release. Do not overheat, gentle warmth is ideal.

Full Abhyanga self-massage: Apply warmed oil generously over the entire body using firm, rhythmic strokes, long strokes on the limbs and circular strokes over the joints, abdomen, and lower back.

Focus on Vata areas: Pay particular attention to areas prone to dryness, cold, or tension, the lower back, hips, sacrum, feet, and joints. These are considered the primary Vata seats in the body in Ayurvedic tradition.

Allow absorption: Leave the oil on for 10–40 minutes. Rest quietly during absorption.

Remove with exfoliating gloves and warm water: After absorption, gently scrub off with exfoliating gloves and warm water. This traditional removal method not only removes the oil but supports natural skin cell renewal and a naturally radiant, polished complexion, combining the benefits of Ayurvedic oil massage with gentle natural exfoliation. After showering, finish with a light application of Vitality Now Jojoba Oil to lock in natural moisture and support soft, comfortable, beautifully nourished skin throughout the day.

Best timing: Morning use before bathing is traditionally used to set a grounded, warm tone for the day. Evening use before bed is traditionally considered settling and supportive of sleep.

Seasonal use: For daily Vata-balance in Ayurvedic tradition, use daily throughout autumn and winter. Reduce to 3–4 times per week during spring and summer.

Safety: For external use only. Perform a patch test before full body use. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Not recommended during pregnancy without practitioner guidance. If irritation occurs, discontinue use. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you have a diagnosed medical condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Vata Balancing Massage Oil and who is it for? +

The Vata Balancing Massage Oil is a classically formulated herbalised massage oil blending warming, grounding herbs and essential oils to balance Vata dosha. It is best suited to people who experience dryness, coldness, restlessness, anxiety, joint stiffness, or thin and rough skin, classic signs of Vata imbalance. It is used for daily Abhyanga self-massage, a cornerstone practice of Ayurvedic daily health routines.

How do I use the Vata Balancing Massage Oil for Abhyanga? +

Warm the oil slightly by placing the bottle in a cup of hot water for a few minutes. Apply from head to toe using long strokes on the limbs and circular strokes on the joints. Let the oil absorb for 15-20 minutes, then shower or bathe in warm (not hot) water. Morning Abhyanga with Vata-balancing oil is a classical Ayurvedic practice recommended before breakfast and physical activity.

Can the Vata Balancing Oil help with anxiety and nervousness? +

In Ayurveda, daily warm oil massage (Abhyanga) is one of the most grounding practices for calming Vata-related mental restlessness and nervous unease. The tactile quality of warm oil applied to the body has a deeply settling effect in Ayurvedic practice. Many people who experience Vata-type nervousness find regular Abhyanga with Vata oil a profoundly grounding daily ritual. This product is not a treatment for any mental health condition.

Can the Vata Balancing Massage Oil help with dry skin? +

The Vata Balancing Oil contains deeply nourishing, unctuous carrier oils and herbal infusions specifically chosen to counter the dry, rough, and cold qualities of Vata imbalance in the skin. Regular Abhyanga with warming oils is the primary Ayurvedic recommendation for dry, rough skin. It is not a treatment for eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, or any skin disease.

What is the difference between the Vata Balancing Massage Oil and Black Sesame Oil for Vata? +

Black Sesame Oil is a pure single-ingredient carrier oil with natural Vata-pacifying properties, simple, versatile, and suitable for cooking as well as massage. The Vata Balancing Massage Oil is a specifically formulated blend containing Black Sesame Oil as a base plus additional Ayurvedic herbs and warming essential oils that enhance its Vata-balancing action. The massage oil is the more targeted therapeutic option; sesame oil is the more versatile everyday option.
