About This Oil
Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis), also known as Goat Nut or Deer Nut, is one of the most extraordinary botanicals in both modern skincare and Ayurvedic tradition. And it carries a fascinating secret: it is not technically an oil at all. Jojoba is a liquid wax ester, a molecular structure more closely related to the natural sebum your skin produces than to any conventional plant oil. This unique chemistry is the source of its exceptional versatility, stability, and compatibility with virtually every skin type and constitution.
Unlike typical plant oils, Jojoba is a liquid wax ester that closely resembles the skin's natural sebum, and this similarity is not superficial. The chemical composition of Jojoba's fatty acids is so close to that of human sebum that the skin readily integrates this botanical, supporting the skin's natural surface balance and a naturally comfortable skin experience. The result is a face, body, and hair oil that absorbs completely, leaves no greasy residue, does not clog pores, and works in harmony with the skin's own natural character rather than overriding it.
In Ayurveda, Jojoba is classified as Tridoshic, suitable for and beneficial to all three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and all skin types. Its balanced combination of nourishing, protective, and naturally skin-balancing qualities makes it one of the most universally applicable Ayurvedic skincare oils available. It is also Vitality Now's premier carrier oil, the perfect base for most Ayurvedic essential oil blends, including as the foundation for the Vata Roller.

Directions for Use
For Skin (Face, Body & Hands)

• As a body oil: Apply liberally to the body after bathing while skin is still slightly damp for maximum absorption. Can be used as a standalone nourishing body oil or as the base for Abhyanga (Ayurvedic self-massage).
• As a makeup remover: Massage a small amount onto dry skin to dissolve makeup and impurities. Remove gently with a warm damp cloth.
• As a lip treatment: Apply a small amount to dry or chapped lips as needed for natural nourishment and comfort.

Why it works?
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Jojoba Oil unique and why is it used in Ayurveda? +
Jojoba Oil is technically a liquid wax rather than a true oil, which gives it an unusually long shelf life and a unique skin-compatibility profile. In Ayurveda it is classified as Tridoshic, suitable for all three body types (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), because it closely mimics the skin's natural sebum without clogging pores. It is used as a carrier oil for essential oils, a standalone facial and body moisturiser, a scalp oil, and a makeup remover.
Can Jojoba Oil be used on the face and as a makeup remover? +
Yes, Jojoba Oil is widely used as a gentle, non-comedogenic facial oil and makeup remover. Its wax-like molecular structure allows it to dissolve makeup, including waterproof formulas, while simultaneously conditioning the skin. Apply to dry skin, massage gently, then remove with a warm damp cloth. It is suitable for most skin types including oily and combination skin.
Is Vitality Now's Jojoba Oil cold-pressed and unrefined? +
Yes, Vitality Now's Jojoba Oil is certified organic and cold-pressed without heat or chemicals, preserving its full natural nutrient profile including its natural vitamin E, B-complex vitamins, and skin-supportive wax esters. Refined jojoba oils lose many of these compounds during processing. Cold-pressed unrefined jojoba has a faint natural golden colour and a light characteristic aroma.
Can Jojoba Oil help with acne-prone skin? +
Jojoba Oil is one of the few plant oils traditionally valued for oily and blemish-prone skin because its wax-like structure closely mimics sebum without blocking pores. In Ayurveda, oily and Pitta-Kapha skin tendencies benefit from balancing, non-heavy oils. Jojoba's naturally balancing properties make it suitable as a carrier oil for combination and oily skin types. It is not a treatment for any skin condition. Consult a dermatologist for persistent skin concerns.
Can Jojoba Oil help with scalp dryness and dandruff? +
Jojoba Oil is a traditional scalp conditioning oil used to nourish dry scalp tissue, balance natural oil production, and support a healthy scalp environment. Many people experiencing scalp dryness or flakiness find regular scalp oiling a beneficial wellness practice. It is not a treatment for any scalp or hair condition. Consult a healthcare professional for persistent scalp concerns.
What is the difference between Jojoba Oil and Sesame Oil for Ayurvedic massage? +
Both are commonly used carrier oils in Ayurvedic practice but with different properties. Sesame Oil is warming, heavy, and deeply nourishing, ideal for Vata types and winter Abhyanga. Jojoba Oil is lighter, Tridoshic, and balancing, better for Pitta and Kapha types, sensitive skin, and facial use. Jojoba's wax structure also gives it a longer shelf life than sesame oil.
