About This Formula

Sitopaladi Churna is a classical Ayurvedic formula referenced in the Charaka Samhita and Bhaishajya Ratnavali, two long-standing classical Ayurvedic texts, with a documented history of traditional use spanning many centuries.

The formula traditionally combines cooling ingredients, Vamsa Lochana (bamboo silica) and Rock Sugar, with warming ingredients, Pippali (long pepper), Cardamom, and Cinnamon. In Ayurvedic tradition, this combination is traditionally associated with seasonal comfort during cooler, damper weather, when Kapha is traditionally said to accumulate.

Traditional Ayurvedic wellness product. Directions for Use

Traditional preparation (with honey): Mix ½–1 teaspoon of Sitopaladi Churna with an equal amount of raw honey to form a thick paste. Place a small amount on the tongue and allow it to slowly dissolve before swallowing. Continue taking small amounts in this way until the full dose has been consumed. Traditionally, honey is regarded as the preferred Anupana (carrier) for this formula. This preparation may be enjoyed up to 3–5 times daily, according to individual needs. Do not give honey to children under 12 months of age due to the risk of infant botulism.

With warm water: If honey isn't available, stir ½–1 teaspoon into a small glass of warm water and drink slowly.

With warm milk: Stir ½–1 teaspoon into warm dairy or plant-based milk with a small amount of honey, if desired.

Seasonal use: Traditionally used during seasonal transitions, particularly autumn and winter.

For children: Traditionally used in Ayurveda for both adults and children. Mix with honey (for children over 12 months of age) or warm water. As a general guide, children 2–5 years: ⅛ teaspoon, 6–12 years: ¼ teaspoon, 12 years and over: ½–1 teaspoon. Administer 3–5 times daily as traditionally used, or adjust according to individual needs and practitioner advice.

Important safety note: Important safety note: Consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have diabetes (this formula contains Rock Sugar). If symptoms are persistent, severe, or worsening, seek advice from your healthcare professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sitopaladi Churna and what is it used for in Ayurveda? +

Sitopaladi Churna is one of Ayurveda's most respected and widely used classical seasonal wellness formulas, combining Vanshalochan (bamboo silica), Pippali (Long Pepper), Cardamom (Elaichi), Cinnamon (Dalchini), and rock sugar in a traditional preparation cited in classical Ayurvedic texts. It is traditionally used to support natural respiratory ease, comfortable breathing, and seasonal wellness during winter and Kapha-dominant seasons. It is not a treatment for any medical condition.

How do I take Sitopaladi Churna? +

Sitopaladi is traditionally taken as ¼–½ teaspoon mixed with honey and/or ghee before meals, the classical Anupana (carrier) preparation that directs the formula's action to the respiratory passages. Honey is traditionally the most important carrier for Sitopaladi, do not mix honey into hot liquid. It can also be stirred into warm milk or taken as a warm tea. Standard dose is ¼–½ teaspoon two to three times daily during seasonal wellness needs or as directed by your Ayurvedic practitioner.

Can Sitopaladi help with coughs and respiratory discomfort? +

Sitopaladi is traditionally one of Ayurveda's most specifically used formulas for supporting natural respiratory ease and comfortable breathing during times of seasonal Kapha accumulation. Its combination of warming Pippali and Cinnamon with cooling Cardamom and nourishing Vanshalochan (bamboo silica) creates a classically balanced respiratory seasonal wellness formula. Sitopaladi is not a treatment for coughs, asthma, bronchitis, or any respiratory condition. Seek medical care for serious or persistent respiratory symptoms.

Can Sitopaladi help with seasonal congestion and sinus ease? +

Sitopaladi's warming, Kapha-clearing herbs are traditionally used to support the natural clearing of seasonal congestion and Kapha accumulation from the respiratory passages. Its Pippali and Cinnamon combination is particularly valued for its warming, naturally opening aromatic action on the nasal and respiratory passages. Sitopaladi is not a treatment for sinusitis or any sinus condition. Consult your healthcare practitioner for persistent sinus concerns.

What is the difference between Sitopaladi and Pippali for respiratory wellness? +

Pippali (Long Pepper) is a single herb, Ayurveda's foremost deep-acting respiratory and digestive Rasayana, used for sustained, long-term deep tissue nourishment and seasonal wellness support. Sitopaladi is a multi-herb compound formula that includes Pippali alongside Vanshalochan, Cardamom, Cinnamon, and rock sugar, creating a more broadly balanced, immediately soothing, and palatable seasonal respiratory wellness formula. Sitopaladi is the more acute seasonal formula; Pippali is the deeper long-term Rasayana.
