Known as Yastimadhu or "sweet stick" in Sanskrit, Liquorice root is a sweet herb that tonifies and strengthens, balances vata and pitta and has a prabhava or special effect of clearing kapha. It is commonly used in Ayurvedic formulations to harmonize contrasting herbs.

This sweet, nourishing herb may help to support healthy lungs. Its unctuous quality moistens vata and liquefies kapha promoting healthy expectoration and clear breathing. A natural demulcent, liquorice soothes the stomach lining, pacifies excess pitta, and promotes stomach comfort. It supports the natural lubrication of the mucosal membranes, calms excess vata, and supports regular elimination. Liquorice is a tonic for the male reproductive system that may promote virility and the healthy production of semen. It also calms the mind and promotes contentment and harmony.

Traditional actions: anti-inflammatory, antiallergenic, anti-arthritic and antipyretic. It is also a diuretic and a mild expectorant.

Directions: 0.5 – 3 grams with warm water, or as directed by practitoner
