About This Tea

In Ayurveda, Ama is a traditional concept describing the residue of imperfect digestion, traditionally said to gradually coat the body's channels (Srotas), diminish Agni (digestive fire), and create a traditional experience of feeling burdened, heavy, and less vital. Ama is not a disease, but an Ayurvedic concept describing accumulated digestive and metabolic residue that is traditionally believed to obstruct the body's channels (Srotas). In Ayurvedic tradition, clearing Ama is considered one of the most foundational wellness practices.

Anti-Ama Tea is a 16-herb certified organic Ayurvedic decoction blend, traditionally formulated around this concept. At its heart is Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia, also known as "Amrita" in Ayurvedic tradition), a herb traditionally described in classical Ayurvedic texts as a tridoshic Rasayana. Surrounding Guduchi is a supporting group of herbs traditionally classified in Ayurveda as channel-opening (Srotas Shodhana), warming digestive herbs, and traditional Rakta Shodhana (blood-nourishing) herbs.

The result is a warming, spicy, slightly bitter, aromatic decoction. Traditionally prepared and sipped throughout the day, Anti-Ama Tea is used within Ayurvedic tradition by those wishing to incorporate this traditional practice into a daily or seasonal wellness routine.

Traditional Ayurvedic wellness product. Terms such as "Ama-clearing," "channel-opening," and "detoxifying" describe traditional Ayurvedic concepts and are not claims of medical or physiological effect on any organ or body system. This tea is not a substitute for medical treatment, has not been evaluated by the TGA, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Directions for Use

Standard decoction: Add 1–3 teaspoons of Anti-Ama Tea to 1 litre of cold water in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer and cook for 15–20 minutes. Strain well and pour into a thermos to keep warm throughout the day. Sip warm, not cold, throughout the day, or as directed by your Ayurvedic practitioner.

Thermos method (simpler daily preparation): Add 1–3 teaspoons to a thermos and fill with freshly boiled water. Seal and steep for 20–30 minutes. Strain and sip warm throughout the day.

Why warm: In Ayurvedic tradition, warm preparations are considered preferable to cold or iced versions for this type of blend.

Throughout the day: Sip the prepared litre throughout the day in place of regular water or tea, if desired.

Seasonal and programme use: Traditionally used during seasonal Ayurvedic wellness periods, particularly spring and autumn. Some people use it consistently for 2–4 weeks as part of a seasonal wellness routine.

Daily long-term use: Suitable as an ongoing daily tea for those wanting to incorporate this traditional Ayurvedic practice.

Practitioner guidance: For specific constitutional guidance or a tailored routine, consult your Ayurvedic or healthcare practitioner.

Safety: Contains Black Pepper, Ginger, and other warming spices, those with a sensitive digestive system may wish to start with a weaker preparation. Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ama and how does Anti-Ama Tea support Ayurvedic detox? +

In Ayurveda, Ama refers to undigested metabolic waste that accumulates in the body when digestive fire (Agni) is weak. Anti-Ama Tea is an Ayurvedic herbal blend formulated with Deepana (digestive fire-kindling) and Pachana (ama-digesting) herbs to support natural digestive clarity, fluid balance, and the body's own detoxification processes. It is not a medical detox treatment.

How do I use Anti-Ama Tea? +

Steep 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in 300-500ml of hot water for 5-10 minutes. The Ayurvedic recommendation is to sip hot or warm Anti-Ama Tea throughout the day between meals rather than consuming large amounts at once. This practice is particularly traditional during seasonal transitions, post-holiday periods, or times when digestion feels sluggish.

Can Anti-Ama Tea support weight management and metabolism? +

The herbs in Anti-Ama Tea are traditionally used in Ayurveda to support natural Agni (digestive fire), which Ayurveda considers the foundation of healthy metabolism and balanced digestion. Many people include Anti-Ama Tea as part of a seasonal wellness or digestive balance routine alongside mindful dietary choices. It is not a treatment for obesity, any metabolic condition, or any medical condition.

Can Anti-Ama Tea help with fluid retention and puffiness? +

Several of the herbs in Anti-Ama Tea are classified in Ayurveda as Mootral (naturally fluid-supporting) and are used to support the body's natural fluid balance and reduce excess Kapha accumulation. It is traditionally enjoyed during times of heaviness or fluid sluggishness as part of a Kapha-clearing routine. It is not a treatment for oedema, kidney disease, or any medical condition. Consult your healthcare practitioner for medical concerns.

How is Anti-Ama Tea different from CCF Tea? +

CCF Tea (Cumin, Coriander, Fennel) is a gentle, daily Ayurvedic digestive tea suitable for all doshas, primarily used for everyday digestive maintenance, gas, and gentle daily detox. Anti-Ama Tea is a stronger, more targeted Ayurvedic detox formula with a broader range of Ama-clearing herbs, better suited to periods of intentional cleansing or when digestive accumulation is more pronounced.
